Dry brushing is a technique that promotes healthier skin by removing dead skin cells on the surface of the skin and also stimulating and increasing skin cell production, giving your skin a healthy glow.
But the benefits are not just skin deep – dry brushing both increases blood flow and circulation and enhances detoxification through the skin.
Some benefits of dry brushing:
- Skin that is healthier and smoother: removing dead skin cells and opening pores to allow them to “breath” and absorb nutrients;
- Stress relief: increasing your blood flow reduces stress in areas of the body and stimulates nerve endings in your skin which in turn rejuvenates your nervous system;
- Reduced cellulite: increasing blood circulation to the skin helps break down and releases toxins that cause cellulite in legs and hips.
What you will need:
A bristle brush. Make sure the brush isn’t too hard or too soft. It should be stiff enough to exfoliate but not too hard on the skin.
The dry brush technique for you
- The brush doesn’t need to be wet and neither should your skin be wet. This method is called dry brushing because it literally is dry brushing your skin.
- Start with your feet, moving in soft circular movements upwards (always moving towards the heart). Repeat with the other leg.
- After you are finished with the lower half, start at the fingertips of one arm; and move upwards again in a soft circular motion. Repeat on the other arm.
- Move to the back. The brush comes with a long handle that you can attach and detach. Use the handle to reach hard to reach areas.
- When you get to your stomach, start at your lower abdomen and work your way up (make sure to steer clear of delicate areas and avoid brushing anywhere near the chest).
This is more like a massage, do this whenever your sitting or while watching TV. Make sure to be gentle, if you get any redness on the skin, it means you are being harsh or the brush is too hard.
Be gentle. Avoid the face! The face skin is too delicate for this kind of brush. For best results, do this every day.
Awesome post.
